Giross and five other delivery apps that are revolutionizing deliveries in Brazil
The global coronavirus pandemic has significantly boosted the home delivery market
— not just for meals
The delivery service industry in Brazil has grown exponentially. According to a survey by Kantar, the adoption of these services jumped from 80% in 2020 to 89% in 2022 among restaurants. This year, the Foodservice Institute Brazil (IFB) forecasts a 7.5% growth. One of the key factors driving this growth was the global COVID-19 pandemic, which unlocked the potential for many people to purchase items via their mobile phones and receive deliveries without leaving home.
In 2021, during the quarantine, a study conducted by GS&NPD in partnership with the Food Service Institute Brazil revealed that spending on delivery in the country totaled R$40.5 billion, representing a 24% increase from the previous year. This demonstrates how the pandemic accelerated a trend that was already underway in Brazil.
This shift has driven a radical change in consumer habits across the country, leading to the rise of a new and rapidly growing market: delivery apps that facilitate the entire process of purchasing, selling, and delivering products online. In Brazil alone, there are now more than 250 apps serving as platforms to connect customers with establishments, according to an analysis by Mobills.
✅ Companies Revolutionizing the Delivery Landscape:
- Giross | @girossapp
Amid this dynamic environment, the Giross app (@girossapp) stands out by offering an insurance service for partner companies, a delivery efficiency data system, and features such as a real-time delivery map and a scoring system for delivery drivers. The app has over 80,000 registered delivery drivers and operates in 340 cities across the country. It is also expanding into Portugal while continuing its growth in Brazil.
One of the customized solutions that sets the platform apart is its reduced service fee—just 20% for partner companies, compared to over 35% charged by competitors. Today, well-known companies like Raia Drogasil, Pague Menos, Subway, Burger King, and Arezzo use the Giross system for their deliveries.
The startup achieved a milestone by becoming the first in the state of Bahia to receive a seal of approval from Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency). It has gained further recognition for enabling delivery drivers to earn between R$1,000 and R$3,500 per month on average.
“I tried other platforms but couldn’t get approved because my card, since it wasn’t permanent, wouldn’t authorize it. Giross was the first to give me the opportunity, and it also offers the best payout. It pays very well and keeps me going,” said Márcio, one of the top five delivery drivers in São Paulo who uses the platform, in an interview.
- Agitaí | @agitaiapp
With the vision of creating a safe space to connect artists and culture enthusiasts, Bruno Cordeiro from Curitiba developed the app “Agitaí,” which allows users to hire artists for events directly from their mobile phones. The idea was born from his struggle to find musicians for a family barbecue.
The platform offers a variety of artists, including musicians, bands, DJs, stand-up comedians, and dance groups. It provides information on their schedules, available times, show prices, booking options, and immediate hiring with payment through the app itself.
The “Culture Delivery,” as the brand’s CEO calls it, allows users to explore artist profiles, view their previous work, check availability, and make reservations directly through the app in real time for informal dinners or corporate events. Clients can pay in up to three installments, and the artist receives the full amount.
Based in Curitiba, the company is looking to expand nationwide. To access the service, simply register on the app, find your favorite artist, chat with them, and schedule the performance.
- Zee.now | @zeenow
In August 2019, the Zee Dog group expanded its operations by launching an online pet shop with specific products for dogs and cats, such as food, litter, toys, and medicine, available through a delivery service.
In 2021, according to data from Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants), delivery sales in the food market generated approximately R$35 billion, accounting for 20% of the sector’s sales. Zee Now’s approach is to break away from market hegemony and embrace a trend that other delivery companies have yet to explore fully.
With a product catalog of over 9,000 items, including dewormers, hygienic mats, flea repellents, collars, and toys, the company promises same-day delivery for orders placed via the app, between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Some leading brands in the pet market, such as Golden, Pipicat, Premier, Royal Canin and Bravecto, have already partnered with the platform.
The app has coverage in fifteen states in the country, such as Bahia, Amazonas, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
- Food to Save | @foodtosavebr
Data from IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) indicate that around 30% of the food produced in Brazil is wasted. To avoid further escalating this reality, Food to Save launched its online platform.
With the premise of avoiding waste, the app, in partnership with commercial establishments, becomes an online shelf for food close to its expiration date. The goal is to have these “saved” by customers who are willing to pay only 1/3 of the original value of the product. The company representative explains that participating establishments receive training to understand what is and is not suitable for the production of the bags.
On the interface, you can choose the type of restaurant you want, and well-known names such as Rei do Mate, Dengo, Domino’s and Ambev are already regular partners. The bags are always a surprise, but the customer can choose whether they will be sweet, savory or mixed.
Payment can be made within the delivery platform itself, via credit card, meal voucher and Pix, and six states already have coverage, namely Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Distrito Federal, Paraná and Santa Catarina.
- Echope | @echopeoficial
The Global Beer Consumption Report places Brazil in 25th place, representing a consumption of 69.3 liters per inhabitant. In this scenario, the Echope app finds fertile ground.
The company responsible for the platform is a convenience store chain specializing in beverages that has 73 stores and 3 kiosks spread across 13 states in the country. In terms of delivery, the brand offers alcoholic beverages, with a focus on draft beers and beers, but it also has juices, water, meats and charcoal in its digital catalog.
Heineken, a company that grew between 10% and 14% in the country last year according to research by the brewery itself, is a regular partner and makes its products available through the EChope app.
Complimentary ice in all orders made through the platform and a free draft beer tap installation service for events are notable differences in this delivery interface.
