British actor will reprise the character that defined his early career in a limited run of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” in New York, more than 15 years after the original film saga came to an end

Rupert Grint is preparing to reunite with one of the most important characters of his career. Best known worldwide for playing Ron Weasley in the “Harry Potter” films, the British actor will return to the magical universe, this time on a Broadway stage in New York.

Grint will reprise the role in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” a theatrical production set 19 years after the events of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Instead of the young Hogwarts student audiences remember from the movies, the actor will portray an adult Ron facing a different stage of life, including the responsibilities of fatherhood.

His participation will be part of a limited engagement at the Lyric Theatre. Grint is expected to appear in the production for 17 weeks, from February 2 through May 30, 2027, making the run a special event for longtime fans of the franchise.

The play originally premiered in 2016 and expanded the story beyond the events depicted in the books and films. Its narrative introduces a younger generation connected to Hogwarts while revisiting familiar characters years after the adventures that made them internationally recognizable.

For Grint, returning to Ron carries particular significance. More than 15 years have passed since the original film series concluded. The actor began playing the character when he was still a child and grew up on screen alongside Daniel Radcliffe, who portrayed Harry Potter, and Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger.

The passage of time also creates an interesting connection between Grint and his character. The actor has since become a father himself, giving him a personal perspective on the more mature version of Ron presented in the stage production.

The Broadway appearance also follows another notable return from the original film cast. Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy, previously stepped back into his famous role on stage in New York. His participation attracted considerable attention and demonstrated the strong public interest in seeing original cast members revisit the characters associated with their careers.

Grint’s return, however, does not currently represent a full reunion of the central trio from the films. There has been no confirmation that Radcliffe or Watson will join him in the Broadway production.

Even without such a reunion, the announcement carries significant nostalgic value. Ron Weasley was one of the central characters throughout the eight films released between 2001 and 2011, becoming inseparable from Grint’s public image.

Since the end of the movie saga, the actor has pursued other roles in film, television and theater, gradually building a career beyond the wizarding world. Returning to Ron now gives him an opportunity to approach the character from a completely different stage of adulthood.

The limited Broadway run will therefore serve as both a continuation and a reunion. For audiences who watched Grint grow up as Ron Weasley, the production offers the chance to see actor and character meet again years later, bringing a familiar figure from the original “Harry Potter” generation into a new chapter on stage.
