Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after reports that Iranian Kurdish dissident groups based in northern Iraq are preparing for a possible military operation targeting Iran. The movement of fighters near the border has raised concerns among regional observers about the risk of a broader conflict.

According to Kurdish authorities, representatives of the United States have contacted Iraqi Kurdish leaders requesting support in the event of a potential operation against Iran. The information was reported by international media outlets citing Kurdish officials familiar with the discussions.

Kurdish opposition groups are considered one of the most organized segments within the fragmented Iranian opposition. Many of these groups reportedly have thousands of trained fighters and established networks operating along the mountainous border regions between Iraq and Iran.

Their potential involvement in a military conflict could pose a serious challenge to authorities in Tehran. Analysts warn that Kurdish participation might also draw Iraq more deeply into the conflict, increasing regional instability.

One of the leaders speaking publicly about the situation was Khalil Nadiri, commander of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK). The group operates from the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq.

Nadiri said that some of the group’s forces have already moved toward the Iranian border and are positioned in the province of Sulaymaniyah, remaining on standby. According to him, leaders of Kurdish opposition groups were approached by U.S. officials regarding a possible operation, though he did not provide further details.

The news website Axios was the first to report the alleged communication between U.S. officials and Kurdish leaders. CNN later reported that the White House had been in talks with Kurdish groups about the possibility of providing military support.

Experts note that any direct involvement of Kurdish armed groups in a conflict with Iran could significantly alter the strategic balance in the region. The Kurdish issue has long been a sensitive matter across several Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria.

While no official confirmation has been issued about an imminent military operation, the reported troop movements and diplomatic contacts have heightened concerns about escalating tensions in an already fragile region.
