Trump to Visit Disaster-Stricken North Carolina and California

President Donald Trump is set to embark on his first term visit to North Carolina and California this Friday, focusing on recovery efforts in communities severely impacted by natural disasters.

In Fletcher, North Carolina, Trump will receive a briefing on the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which devastated parts of the state. Following the briefing, he plans to meet with families in Swannanoa to offer support.

Upon landing in Asheville, Trump criticized the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), reiterating his long-standing grievances. “They’ve been abused by what’s happened,” he stated. “FEMA has really let us down, let the country down.” Despite his criticism, the president pledged significant financial aid for recovery efforts. However, he emphasized his belief that state governments should primarily handle disaster responses.

Later on Friday, Trump will head to California, where he will tour Pacific Palisades and receive updates on the wildfires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area.

The visit also highlights Trump’s continued critique of disaster response under the Biden administration. He has previously claimed, without evidence, that aid was deliberately withheld from Republican areas in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, which struck during the 2024 presidential campaign.

In California, Trump has hinted that disaster aid could serve as a bargaining chip to secure Democratic support for his legislative priorities, reflecting his strategic approach to federal assistance.
