Despite a $133 Billion Fortune, Bill Gates’ Children Will Inherit ‘Only’ $10 Million Each: ‘Leaving Large Sums of Money to Kids Is Not a Favor’

Bill Gates, the Harvard dropout who built a global technology empire, is synonymous with immense wealth. With a net worth exceeding $130 billion, many would assume that his children would inherit a substantial portion, securing their places among the world’s elite. However, Gates has a different vision for his legacy.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, Gates revealed that his three children would inherit “only” a “minuscule portion” of his fortune. Specifically, each will receive a mere $10 million. This decision was not a whim, but a deliberate choice rooted in his belief in the importance of hard work and purpose.

Gates affirmed his stance, stating: “I definitely think leaving large sums of money to children is not a favor to them. Warren Buffett was part of a Fortune article talking about this in 1986 before I met him, and it made me think about it and decide he was right. Some people disagree with this, but Melinda and I feel good about it.”

Despite their divorce in 2021, Bill and Melinda have maintained their commitment to their children’s inheritance plans, which remain unchanged. Speculation arose about possible adjustments to the children’s inheritance due to the lack of a prenuptial agreement, but ultimately, their plans have remained consistent.

This approach reflects Gates’ broader philosophy on wealth and responsibility. By limiting his children’s inheritance, Gates aims to encourage them to carve their own paths, emphasizing that financial success should come from individual effort rather than an inherited fortune.
