In a relief to many, songwriter Camela Leierth-Segura, who co-wrote one of Katy Perry’s hit singles, has been found safe after vanishing earlier this year. Authorities and a close friend confirmed her safety.
Leierth-Segura, 48, was last seen on June 29 in Beverly Hills, California. Concern grew when her sister in Sweden couldn’t reach her for weeks and alerted friends in the US.
The Beverly Hills Police Department has closed the missing person investigation. Cecilia Foss, a friend of Leierth-Segura and co-writer of Katy Perry’s 2013 hit “Walking On Air,” confirmed she was found in California.
“She was found a few hours ago, so she is safe right now,” Foss told The Independent. “The family has asked for privacy and the police haven’t given me any details yet though, so I only know that she was found so far.”
A police spokesperson stated that no further details about the case’s closure would be released. Previously, Foss had expressed her concern, noting it was out of character for Leierth-Segura to disappear without a trace, especially since her 19-year-old cat Morris was also missing.
“She was always busy, always working toward her next goal,” Foss said in August. “But if I asked her to catch up and she was busy, she’d always respond, ‘don’t worry, we’ll get tea soon.’”
Foss and Leierth-Segura met in the modeling industry in New York City, bonding over their Scandinavian roots—Foss from Norway and Leierth-Segura from Sweden. Despite their busy lives, they regularly caught up over tea. Leierth-Segura, passionate about writing music, treated her cat Morris as her child, Foss shared.
Another friend, Liz Montgomery, was alerted by Leierth-Segura’s sister, prompting her to request a welfare check. Police found that Leierth-Segura had been evicted from her Beverly Hills residence.
“She had mentioned it to all of us that she was having trouble; Covid definitely was not helpful for her because she’s a musician, model, actress, all that stuff,” Montgomery told The Los Angeles Times. “And there was no money coming in.”
Neighbors hadn’t seen her in weeks, and her normally well-tended plants were dying. Her cat and her 2010 Ford Fusion, with California plate 6KZJ725, were also missing. Her last text was sent on June 29, and her car was last seen on police cameras leaving Beverly Hills the following afternoon, but it’s unclear who was driving.
Montgomery filed a missing persons report on August 8. The police assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway, noting the crucial timing between her disappearance and the report.
Leierth-Segura’s discovery brings relief to her friends and family, though many questions remain about her disappearance and current circumstances.
